ABOUT THIS EVENT

Join us for the annual showdown of the World's top up-and-coming amateur doubles teams! The PDGA Amateur World Doubles Championships (previously known as the PDGA National Doubles) was created by John Houck in 1991, and this year it takes an unprecedented leap forward with the addition of two new championship courses at the Trey Texas Ranch. Franklin County now has four premier HouckDesign courses -- Selah Lakeside, Selah Creekside, Trey-Deuce, and Texas Twist -- and we'll be using all four for this event.

For non-players, it's a great chance to see what disc golf is all about; you can watch the players in action, get tips from touring Pros at our clinics, and test your hand at our special putting greens. We'll have food vendors all three days, and special games for kids, too. It's definitely a fun and family-friendly weekend.

ABOUT THE VENUES

Selah Ranch is one of the most beautiful and well-known destinations in the history of disc golf. In 2012 the Lakeside and Creekside courses were voted the top two courses in the world, based on reviews by players at dgcoursereview.com And in 2013 they continued their reign at the top of the charts. Selah Ranch is about 8 miles north of Mt. Vernon (it's technically in Talco, TX).

The Trey Texas Ranch is the home of Texas' two latest and greatest championship disc golf courses. The Trey-Deuce and Texas Twist courses, with winding creeks and menacing ponds, offer some of the most fun and challenging holes players will ever encounter. The down home Texas Ranch atmosphere includes the Trey-Deuce Domino Saloon, well known to the area's top 42 players. Trey Texas is about 8 miles south of Mt. Vernon (it's technically in Purly, Texas).

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

Come and enjoy this festival-like tournament and watch disc golf at two of the world's best disc golf facilities. We will have lots of vendors, prizes, games and activities for the public to enjoy.

Practice: From Monday, March 31st to Thursday, April 3rd, registered players will be able to practice at Selah Ranch and Trey Texas for a special reduced greens fee of $10 per day at each location. Greens fees for tournament weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday April 4th-6th) are included in registration. Camping is available for $10 per person per night both during the event and prior to the event if you want to come early to practice. See Lodging Details below.

New for 2014: The PDGA has requested that the Amateur World Doubles, along with other major amateur events, move to a "True Amateur" model beginning this year. The idea is that best pro players should be rewarded with cash, and that the best amateur players should be rewarded with trophies, not big stacks of discs. It also means that ALL amateur players should get a great value when participating in a PDGA major, which includes the player package, meals, and other tournament amenities.

Registration is $110 per player: entry fee of $75 and discounted greens fee of $35 for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at both venues. We have already secured funding for a player package worth at least 150% of the entry fee, including 4 tournament discs, a tournament shirt, a tournament mini, and two meals. That package -- and other tournament amenities -- will increase if we're successful raising more sponsorship funding. You can register for the tournament here. In order to register, you will need both players' PDGA #'s (if they have one now), addresses, and phone numbers. Please also be prepared to let us know where you think you'll be staying during the event.

Format: The tournament features two days of play, and multiple formats of doubles play. All players must be current PDGA members with Amateur classification who have passed the Official's Exam.

Divisions offered include Advanced, Advanced Women, Advanced Master, Advanced Grandmaster, Advanced Senior Grandmaster, Advanced Legends, and Intermediate. Everyone will play one round of Best Shot, one round of Best Disc, and one round of Alternating Shot. Teams that make the finals will play Best Shot, Best Disc, and Worst Shot.

Best Shot, also known as "Scramble," is the most common format for doubles in disc golf. Players always throw from the same lie, picking the shot they prefer each time.

Best Disc, also known as "Best Score", is similar to singles. Both players play their own disc and take the better score on each hole.

In Alternating Shot, players take turns throwing throughout the course. If one player makes the putt, the other player drives on the next hole.

In Worst Shot, players always throw from the same lie and take the worse shot every time. Both players must make their putts.

Click here for more information on the: Rules for Each Style of Play

Entry Requirements: YOU MUST BE A CURRENT PDGA MEMBER TO PLAY IN THIS EVENT, AND YOU MUST HAVE PASSED THE PDGA OFFICIAL'S EXAM. You can register for the tournament now, but you must pay your dues and pass the exam before the event. Please do not plan to pay your dues at the event -- you must provide proof of membership before the event. If you have not yet passed the Officials Exam, you can take it at http://www.pdga.com/rules/becoming-a-pdga-official
